Top Ten Tips To Hang A Picture

1) When hanging a picture on a wall, the center of the picture should be at eye level.

2) When hanging a picture over a sofa, the bottom of the picture frame should be 9-12 inches above the back of the sofa. No higher.

3) Hang pictures in multiples of 3's and 5's, hanging odd numbers of pictures creates more visual interest.

4) When figuring out a picture arrangement, use the paper template trick. Cut out paper the size of the frames and using tape arrange them on the walls until you find the arrangement you like best.

5) When hanging pictures off a picture rail use ribbon or rope instead of wire. This will create a more finished overall look.

6) When using a nail, hammer it in at a 45degree angle. This will add to the strength and prevent the nail from coming out of the wall.

7) When nailing into plaster use two pieces of masking tape to make an X and nail into the center of it. This will prevent the plaster from cracking.

8) When putting a screw into concrete or brick first drill a hole using a diamond drill bit. Then use a wall anchor to hold the screw in place.

9) When hanging a heavy picture on drywall it is best to put the nail or hook into a stud. A stud is usually found every 16"; tap on the wall, a hollow sound is drywall alone, a solid sound indicates a stud is behind it.

10) Use a small level to get your pictures straight. This is most helpful when hanging multiple pictures.
