Nothing brings a home to life like architectural detail. If your home is one of these styles, or you just love
it and want to integrate it into your own home, here are a few tips to get you started.

1) Focus, focus, focus:
Your fireplace is the decorative focus of the room. The mantle can be anything from plain molding to an elaborate egg and dart molding* with fluted columns*. The surround* should be brick or tile.
2) Keep it Natural:
Your floors should reflect it's early American roots. Smooth pine boards in wide planks just need a natural stain to retain it's beauty and durability. On occasion floors were painted in a simple checked pattern to imitate tile or stone pavers.
3) Things are looking up:
Your ceiling is the crown of the room. Decorative plasterwork is encouraged here, a central medallion in a vine, swag* or roundel* design will top off the room. A four piece crown molding creates dramatic shadows and provides the perfect proportions.
