When The 80's Attack

This young couple lovingly restored their home but they had a secret hidden in the attic. Pink, grey, mint green, blue, it was an 80's time warp up there and it was time to bring the space into the new millennium, with a throwback to the homes original splendor. These three rooms needed definition and direction and it was time to unify the spaces while giving them individual purpose.

The attic had a lot of architectural interest in it already but every bit of it was fighting for attention. By painting the entire ceiling and all the trim white, it created an overall architectural picture. The vibrant green walls add a clean fresh airy feel to the space, using such a bold color the rest of the design has to be very simple and uniform. All the furniture in a crisp white provides sharp contrast while staying in a very simple color palate. If you dare to go bold, simplicity is the key

The curtains for the windows, with green and white botanical print are attached to two tension rods. This allows the versatility of showing off the architectural details in the bedroom windows and easily providing privacy when guests stay over. It is a great alternative to regular shades and blinds when you have details on the top window panes.

Removing the pink carpet in the bedroom and giving the floors a good polish with oil soap had a lot of impact for a few dollars and a little elbow grease. The simple green rugs are in a subtle shade so as not to compete with the wall color. White flowers in glass and shadow box vases keeps the palate fresh, while tall night table lamps and simple tea lights provide intimate sources of light.

This new office, sitting room and bedroom space provides a haven for the homeowners and a treat for overnight guests. Their biggest problem, getting the guests to leave.
