A young woman a year away from going to college wanted a space that was sophisticated, vintage and modern. She wanted a space to rest as well as entertain her friends so this bedroom had to become her own loft apartment.

To give a space a vintage and modern feel is easily accomplished with tufted furniture that has sleek lines. The headboard and the ottomans for the seating area compliment each other in design style but contrast in color. With such a large, well lit space a deep color was the way to go. A warm russet brown for the walls contrasting with blonde hardwood floors sets the tone for the whole design

This young woman has an eye for travel and fashion. The prints over the dresser tie her two passions together and putting them in silver frames hung in a straight line gives the space a modern feel. The knobs on the dresser drawers have been changed to vintage inspired glass pulls. Changing the drawer pulls is an easy and inexpensive way to change the look of a piece of furniture, and can tie different pieces of furniture from around the room together.

The seating area is defined by the area rug. It has a vintage scroll design with a modern square shape. The tufted headboard ties in with the tufted ottomans. The pattern of the ottomans ties in with the rug and the window treatments. The fabric on the window ties in with the pillows on the bed and the accent on the lighted headboard.

It’s hard to know what window treatment to use when you have a window with a lunette (a crescent-shaped window in a vaulted roof to admit light). Creating a valance under the lunette highlights this great architectural feature. The drapes are gathered at the bottom corners of the window for a tailored look and three simple shears are placed on tension rods for privacy.

The double teardrop table and floor lamps gives the room a soft, feminine touch. The frosted glass gives it a vintage look while the metal twisted base modernizes it. Crystal encrusted votive candle holders, white accent furniture and a white ruffled bed cover completes this vintage-modern room.
