What do you do when a former sunroom becomes a year round space but does not feel like it is part of the rest of the house? These owners had been stuck on this question for years and it was time to come up with an answer. Like the rest of the home, they wanted the room to have a contemporary beach feel where they could relax, dine and work.

The major change was removing the sliding glass door, which was once the exterior door. In its place, a set of beautiful French doors, with built in bookcases on either side turn the former exterior of the house into a grand focal point. It is the perfect place for the homeowners to display family pictures and treasured objects as well as provide storage for an at home business.

The walls were painted a dark sand color to give warmth to this large space. It also sets the tone for the rest of the pieces in the room. The existing carpet was in great shape and provided the perfect contrast to the wall. A crisp white trip color highlights the details in the room.

The homeowners existing roman shades were in great shape but did nothing to breathe life into the room. Simple valances in a shell print fabric with a velcro back are attached to the top of the original curtains. This provides much needed color in a contemporary beach style. The pillows, in a stripe fabric, furthers the beach theme and blends perfectly with the valances.

A custom made shadow box coffee table, in a dark stain, is highlighted with sand and shells under a glass case. This table can easily be emptied and filled with any item as the homeowners taste changes. The travertine desk provides plenty of surface area for the homeowner's greeting card business. It is the perfect space to work and have meetings with clients. An under the desk toy box provides extra seating when needed.

The homeowner's wicker chair is painted white to provide seating opposite the new sofa. Their table is reused and paired with a set of white chairs to provide them with an alternative to eating in the dining room.

Shells, starfish and a large piece of driftwood give this room the contemporary beach feel the owners want while blending it into the rest of the house.
