Mid-Century Master Bedroom

This couple wanted a serene room that had a natural clean look. They felt the original wall color was darker than they wanted and the space was not relaxing. While the room had beautiful hardwood floors and a nice color palette the homeowners didn’t feel the room reflected who they were. Having just redone the kitchen themselves they were out of ideas and energy to take on the bedroom.

The biggest change in the room was the woodwork. The lighting cove, storage built–in around the bed, and cedar accent wall are the main focus of the room. With so much carpentry, the walls and the décor had to accentuate it, not compete with it. Neutral was the way to go and using off-white on the walls took away the stark nature of white paint and served to highlight the woods natural colors.

A simple crisp valance, tucked under the lighting cove, in a neutral fabric provides a soft element in the room without calling attention to itself. The accent pillows on the bed are the same fabric as the valance but in a bold color, tying the two together with texture.

The dark area rug provides a contrast to the off-white walls and helps to define a sitting area, while the mission style table and chair fit in with the style of the room and provide a comfortable place to sit and read.

The mirrored closet doors made the room feel larger, but they lacked character. By etching the mirrors with a design to match the headboard, it not only tied the space together, it added visual interest and complimented the lighting cove that wraps around the room

Sunflowers in stone vases, botanical prints, and neutral linens are the finishing touches on this nature inspired space.
