These homeowners just moved in and their new space needed everything. The staircase was not to code, and the windows didn’t open, there was only a sub floor and the fireplace was a bit of an eyesore, but the space was large and it had a lot of potential. They wanted a place that was vibrant and modern, yet relaxing and intimate.

The fireplace was refaced with a faux limestone, concrete product. The use of large blocks visually minimizes the size of the wall, and the fire box opening was given a wide detail around it to make it look bigger. A simple modern screen adds dimension. The fireplace wall now gives the room a clean modern look without it feeling cold.

Blue is the homeowners favorite color, the space gets plenty of light and was large enough to easily handle such a bold choice. The fireplace stands out and the white trim color pops off this vibrant color. The fabric, with its bold palm leaf pattern, plays off the wall color as well as the sofa and ties the space together.

The staircase and the wall underneath it were removed and replaced with a modern open step design. The new window with it’s square detailing now not only works, it is energy efficient. Tile was the way to go on these floors and with such a large space a wide 16” tile helps to make the room feel more intimate. The blue slate look of the tile ties in with the wall color and adds to the warmth of the room. A simple box cover for the air conditioner painted the same color of the wall makes the unit disappear when it is not in use.

With such a large space, floating the large L shaped sofa in the middle of the room helped to create a more intimate feel. The sofa is in a caramel color to play off the bold dark walls and blue in the floor tile. The square glass coffee table has a hydraulic bar so the table can be raised and lowered to fit the homeowner’s needs. The round rug helps to break up all the straight lines in the room and ties all the colors together.

Even the homeowners fish “Fishy” got his home made over. A three-foot high glass vase with clear and black stones at the bottom is the only accessory to grace the fireplace.
