These homeowners were ready to get rid of the paneled walls and say goodbye to the faux brick. There ideal was a modern Indian inspired living room. No vibrant colors were used for this redo, modern Indian design is all about a clean neutral palate with muted patterns on the fabric and rug.

Once the faux brick wall and paneling was removed the closet under the stairs was incorporated into the room. This created the perfect nook for a simple wide shelf to house the new tv. The walls were painted a soft cream yellow color, this is not what some may think when they hear Indian design, but the vibrant colors and gold threaded silks are moving over for a more sophisticated style.

The paisley pattern on the curtains and pillows is the splash of color and texture the room needs to give it the Indian feel. The rug also incorporates the colors and patterns of the curtains to add interest into the room while still maintaining the serenity.

The sofa and chairs are covered in a neutral fabric while the table and curio cabinet are in a darker wood to provide contrast. When designing a neutral room it is important to remember to add this mix into the room. A room that is all neutral with no contrast to break it up can look bland.

Teak carved art panels, Indian inspired bowls and vases and a green leafy plant add life to this serene, modern Indian space.
