Farmhouse Master Bedroom

This master bedroom was the opposite of inviting and relaxing. With green walls, maroon furniture and commercial grade carpet, this was not the place to wind down at the end of the day. This space needed a complete overhaul to create the retreat this couple desired.

The homeowners wanted to vault the ceiling but as with most renovations the budget was a concern. A decorative alternative was using four shades of tan paint moving from lightest to darkest on the ceiling with molding defining each color. The subtle change in color gives the ceiling visual height and interest.

The walls went from a dark uninspired green to a fresh medium blue to show off the room's size and lighten up the space. The low pile, worn out carpet was replaced with a plush, dark brown one. This use of a dark color plays well off the blue walls. The wall opposite the bed gets a complete makeover with a recessed tv and four wall niches. Each niche is painted one of the colors of the ceiling. The curtains also have the four earth tone colors that we see on the ceiling and in the wall niches. It is the coordinating of these elements that further accentuates the fresh blue walls

Simple wood furniture in a soft white finish is accented with ball feet and finials. The brass curtain rods also have coordinating ball finials. It is the subtle use of similar elements that tie a room together. It may seem like a small detail but when all the elements come together the space takes on a finished look. The bedspread is a pop of earth tones to give the room a modern focal point.

Brass wall art, wood block lamps and the homeowners mask collection, twists the Colonial style into the relaxing retreat they were hoping for.
