Colonial Style Patio
When you have a patio that is bigger than most people's living rooms and you never use it, something is wrong. In this case the outdoor room was dark, dank and musty. It was time to lighten it up, brighten it up and clean it up so this family could reclaim this valuable outdoor space.
The biggest problem here was that it was dark, with a mud brown roof and dirty worn out carpet over the concrete floor. Since we were outdoors we were able to use a paint sprayer and easily lighten up the ceiling. Instead of just painting it all white, choosing a forest green for the ceiling and a white for the beams gave the space real dimension as well as making the space feel warm and inviting. Corbels are added to the top of the plain posts and railings at the bottom to give the space a colonial resort feel.
The floor was then covered in Eucalyptus wood tile squares. A wood "rug" is created by turning the center tiles in the opposite direction of the rest of the floor. It is this little design trick that breaks up the pattern and gives this outdoor room added detail. The contrast of the forest green and white paint with the red in the wood tiles, establishes the rich style of the patio.
There were several things in the space that we were able to reuse and with no effort gave it new life. The exterior wall color stayed the same and created a warm addition to the color palate. The sliding doors remained and look as good as new. The large outdoor lights on the exterior wall are now a feature where before they were overlooked.
The homeowners existing furniture was in great shape but lacked a lot of style. A classic resort style striped fabric was used to custom make seat, bench and accent pillows which ties the color scheme around the room. Custom benches and additional chairs help to create several sitting and entertainment areas without cluttering the space.
Beautiful hanging baskets of flowers, a water feature and climbing vine trellises complete this dramatic transformation.
