Basment Transformation
These homeowners purchased their place from a family member and they needed help. They wanted to turn the basement into a master bedroom suite. This space needed a total transformation to give them the open, tranquil oasis they were looking for.
To open up the space, the wall between the two rooms was removed. This created an open floor plan for the bed area and the sitting area. A walk in closet was built at the far end of the sitting area, and a bathroom was created off the bed area.
Once the carpet was removed a linoleum plank floor was installed. This product was the perfect choice for the basement because it was ultra thin and did not take any height from the room like a hardwood floor would. With a basement, moisture is always a concern so this anti microbial product was the way to go. The ceiling grid was replaced with a new portrait style tile. The classic detail on the tile panels adds warmth and simplicity to the space.
The homeowners wanted a soothing master bedroom suite, so a sage green color was picked for the walls. With only two half window in the space, making the room appear one color was a concern. Two colors of sage were picked for the space, the darker shade was placed in the sitting room with the windows, while the lighter shade was placed in the bedroom without windows. It is this kind of design trick of the eye that creates one unified color. A crisp white for the doors and molding highlights the warmth of the sage green.
A ventless fireplace becomes the focal point of the sitting area with two plush armchairs to enjoy it. A rectangular rug with a contemporary design defines the space.
The bedding with its contemporary green, blue and tan stripes, incorporates the colors on the walls, carpet and drapes. Simple pillows made with the drapery fabric rest in each armchair.
Family photos, simple blue glass vases and pottery, and rich wood furniture keeps this space open and tranquil.
